97 4.3 4x4 4 door ls

before i get yelled at i did search and found alot on a tune up's but i need a lil clearification

I have about 114,000 on my blazer an i'll be doing my first indepth tune up. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter

plugs, wires and fuel filter are nothing. the cap and rotor i'm a lil worried on. Is it as simple and un bolting the old and bolting up the new stuff as long as i don't touch anything i shouldnt?

I also will be doing an oil and diff fuild change. I did the antifreeze a few months ago and the tranny was rebuilt in the summer so all thats good

I read on here that alot of guys are telling people to put in a new PCV. I don't really know Exactly what it does but i don't care, Ill just replace it there only a few bux............ but where is it and are they hard to get to???

If i'm forgetting somthing i should do please let me know

PCV valve is in the driver's side valve cover.

Also you should replce the O2 sensor in front of the cat. At 114k, it is due for a replacement.

Remember the air filter.

I picked it up at 85K and have done all basic mait and the guy told me that it was taken care of very well. but i most likely just had smoke blown up my ass. beisde the tranny shifting way to hard i never had a problem, she still runs great. I change oil every 3k, check fluids under the hood every weekend. And under the car (diff"s) montly. but i have the time and money right now so i can do the bigger stuff

This summer i bolted on a cold air intake so my air filter is fine. I plan cleaing the cone filter, MAF and the thottle body

This should really boost your 175 miles to the tank. And why the throttle body spacer?

The front O2 sensor controls your fuel mixture and is one of the key components with respect to your fuel economy along with the plugs and cap and rotor.

The cap and rotor are direct bolt ons, just make sure you have some torx bits handy.

Watch you don't over-oil your cone air filter seeing it will screw up your MAF.

If you want to make sure your engine is burning cleaner, you might want to consider the PCV catch can I installed, you would be amazing how much oil I catch every week which would be going into the intake and fouling the plugs.

Also, use only AC Delco Platinum plugs, nothing else. Also use an AC Delco cap and rotor and wires if you can.

Why are there so many damn TORX bolts on this thing. I always have trouble finding the right one because I hardly ever use them otherwise.:newburn:

Air Fliter should be replace every 12000 miles oil filter change every 3000
miles tune up every 25000 miles including inspection of platium spark plugs. The spark glugs should be replaced after 5 years 100000 miles.
The PVC filter should be replaced every year.
The Radiator should be flushed to be on the safe side at least twice
every 5 years. Replace the Dexcool every Year, A Must....

s10blazerman4x4: The throttle body spacer was spurr of the moment. My buddy had an s-10 xtreeme that he was doing a small block swap and was tossing his old stuff. So i picked it up for free from him. And after more intensive daily maint. I get about 200-230 to a tank. But i like keeping the tank full so i only let it go about 100 miles and i'll fill it up

I'm shooting for 2-morro to be a nice day in the philly area so i can get all of this stuff done. Thanx again guys your a HUGE help

The PCV catch can is comprosed of a air compressor air/oil filter and some fittings to connect it to the PCV hose. Use high pressure fuel line for the hoses to and from the catch can.

The TB spacer should be removed, does nothing for a 4.3L and can cause more problems than it will help.

As for the oil, go with a Mobil1 synthetic oil change and change it every 6000-7000miles. When used properly, synthetic is an actual cheaper oil change with superior protection.

As for the air filter, you have to oil it, just don't smother it with oil.

The owner's manual may state that, but IMO it is a function of where you drive - dusty environments or not..

I have 40,000 miles on my air filter and it looks almost as clean as a new one...

I think I really need to do that Catch can mod. I beliive I'll (actually anyone) would benifit from it.

I looked up on the PCV catch can. I saw that you made a link and have pic, that makes life easier. But i wanted to know if the catch can just splices in line w/ the PCV. Also if it does, does the catch can have to be an height in reference to the motor, as in higher than the PCV or Lower than the PCV ect. And where did you pick ur seperator up at

It goes in between the pcv valve and the intake. Best to replace the stock PCV hose with reinforced fuel line.

Toal time for installation should be under an hour.

this might be a stupid question but what do u mean by back flushing, lol.
i tried to soak it in simple green then rinse it with the garden hose but that didn't do anything.

everything u need is at lowes or home depot (except the fuel hose; get that from auto parts store). should be between $30-40 for everything

Yours is just like mine, it is only staining, not plugged. Just a color difference and nothing more.

alright. i empty mine about once every 2-3 weeks and rinse the filter at the same time. it fills up about 1/4 of the way and stays there until it is emptied.

Well i got most of it done today
Rear diff cover
fuel filter
cap
rotor
wires
plugs
PCV

I also did an oil change. I managed to snap a Plug when i droped the sterring shaft so I gotta get a new plug and i ran out of money so i didn't do the PCV catch can may be later in the week when i fix the plug and clean the MAF. This set me back about 300 bux. Beside oil everything is AC delco. I proply could have saved money but i like doing things right the first time.

Snapping a plug isnt doing it right the first time lol.
You better get that out because of running on 5.

BUt i had to get a Rear cover, than gear oil than RTV. I also got a fuel filter and a pcv it blaneces out a little more w/ that stuff

Why did you have to get a rear diff cover? Was it bad or just for protection in long run?

From the salt in the winter was eating it away. it was leaking all over on the seal part. and the metal itself just wasn't looking in very good condition at all. I was affriad that if it would get hit w/ somthing when i rarly go offroading that somthing would dent or puncutre it. So better safe the sorry. it also gave me the reason to change the rear diff fluid and real seal it back up. also the new cover has a magnet on the inside on it. My old one didn't so thats a plus
