2001 jimmy service engine soon light

the "service engine soon" light comes on but does not seem to be able to be permentantly solved. was told it was the wrong gas cap, which when replaced did turn off warning. however keeps coming back. was told it is a sensor on exhaust system, but can't figure it out. anybody with any solutions?

Auto Zone and Advance Auto Parts will check the codes for free. Have them check it and post the codes here.

I have the same problem and had part replaced, worked for about three months and the light came on again. It does go out sometimes when I put gas in, or when I drop the cap on the ground by mistake. I think this is a GM problem, their solution is to keep replacing the parts.

No, the soultion is certainly NOT to keep replacing parts... The soultion is to read the code then track down what is causing the code and fix it for good. That by far has to be the worst advice I've seen given on any of the boards...:banghead::disappoin:wtf::nutkick::swear:
