Alright guys, i searched and read all the motor mount threads bc i think it is the source of this problem...but im also unsure about that...anyways i work ten hours a day, when i go to my car when i wake up in the morning i let it warm up untill the water temp is warm so i can turn on the heater...i hate the cold...then i take off and as i do i get a loud bump, as if the motor has slammed from one side of the motor mount to the other,or hit something...then i hit a series of stop signs, and smooth shifting from stop to first is impossible untill i have been driving for over 30 min. by the time i arrive to work it shifts normal(and after the first acceleration the whole bump thing doesn't happen.) Then i work for 10 hours. come back to my car around 6 30 or 7 at night, let it warm up again...not quite as long as in the morning, put it in reverse and get the bump again...again its only once, but the shifting still sucks...i have read posts about the shifting and from what i read that shifting is normal...for the 3g eclipse anyway. redline gear oil helps right?? anyways just wondering what you guys think...motormounts? something worse?

also i have a rotating grinding noise that i get when the engine is in gear and im moving...from about 2k and up it is annoying as hell...it almost as if something is rubbing against something else but only in one spot...its hard to describe but above 2k its just a constant rotating grind...any ideas?? what does a warped flywheel sound like?

anyways sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Sorry, Im in California for spring break, so I havent been checking this all the time. Your problem getting the car in gear sounds like it might be a synchro problem. Or, your clutch is starting to go. Alot of times i have a hard time getting my car in 1st/reverse and I am thinking its because my clutch is SHOT. As for the bump, it might be motor mounts. Does it make the noise when you simply put the car in gear, or when you start to let off the clutch? Either way, I am betting both your engine and trans side motor mounts are pretty shot. I just replaced mine (ill put some pics up on how bad they were), and the car starts and idles 100% better, and i get very very little wheel hop. Best 300 bucks i ever spent!! If you replace your clutch make sure you have your flywheel checked, and checking your motor mounts isnt really that hard, you just have to know what to look for. Good Luck

o yea you are in so cal huh?? i think i read that over at C3G...anyways it happens when i let out on the clutch and i plan on replacing the motor mounts soon if they need it or not with urethane motor mounts...anything else you cant think of let me know...thanks

Ok guys, i posted this thread a while back. Think i have figured out the source of the problem as motor mounts. Not to mention bad tie rods and struts. anyways, all is repaired except for motor mounts, and the noise is still there. So i have been reading about urethane motor mounts, and i hear they cause vibration...exactly how much vibration are we talking about?? in case no one remembers(or if i never stated...bad memory) i have a 2000 GT and plan on replacing all four mounts with urethane inserts.

i've got f/r ones, it's not bad vibration, you do kno that your car is running though, b/c you can feel it in the steering wheel just a little.

i've had no passenger ever complain of vibration or notice an increase in vibration.

they are the most worthwhile mod in my opinion

if your mounts are SHOT I would not suggest simply using the inserts. you are going to want to get complete replacements, and Deyeme Racing is the only place I know that sells them. If your mounts look anyhting like how mine did, an insert would do nothing. Just my 2 cents.

Yes they make all 4, and now they have started selling them in a kit of 4 to save you about 60 bucks or so. Just make sure you are looking under the 99-2005 Sebring/Stratus Coupe for the mounts. Best 300 bucks I ever spent on my car.
