hi i recently lowered my car with new springs how ever on one of them the front driver the center lock nut on the shock i put the nut up side down and its like half way down so now it wont come off for shit i was thinking maybe i can cut it off? because i dont want to buy a new shock plus the spring and everything is on it so i would have to cut the shock or something to get the spring off, is there a good way to cut a nut? it still rides fine and everything it just makes a wierd noise, something you dont want to hear while your driving lol a scary noise, anyone with any ideas please help asap, thanks

How "stuck" is it? do you have an impact? I wouldn't cut it unless absolutely necessary, if you do cut you will need to retap the threads.

Even if he were able to remove it without cutting, he would still need to retap the threads. Sounds like hes going to have to cut it. That would do the least damage.

Cut notches on 3 or 4 sides of the nut as close to the threads as you can get without touching them, assuing you have a die grinder or dremel with cutoff wheel. That will usually let the nut expand a bit and loosen up the pressure enough to allow it to be worked off. If you can't clean up the threads enough to get another nut on, and there is enough good thread at the top, cut a thickwall hollow dowel pin or machine bushing down to act as a spacer allowing the nut to tighten while it is still on the upper threads to avoid having to shitcan that shock.

Also, putting a nut on upside down won't cause this problem, something else was going on there.

yeah i dont know what went wrong, it was just getting super hard to tighten and then i noticed it was upside down now matter what it wont budge espescially wint i have to make sure the rod doesnt spin while trying to unscrew the nut, what can i use to cut it? im starting to think a bolt cutter, not sure what to use, yeah i figured i would have to re-tap it, this sucks, thanks for all the input and help tho guys i appreciate it

I would use a thin cutoff wheel in a dremel or die grinder.

Ooh, sounds to me like you cross threaded it. Did you impact it on? Yeah, I would try and cut it off like Kevin said. I wouldnt use a lock cutter, find someone with a dremmel or rotozip.

hey i got it off and put a new one on no need for re-tap either i used a grinder grinded it down a bit then it allowed me to unscrew it got a new bolt stuck it on there, perfect fit, i was trying to use a dremel but the cut offs kept breaking, thanks again
