Really neat new kits...

Anyone bought any of AMT's "Resto Rod" line? I think they're fairly new. I just bought this:

It's the same old AMT '69 Chevelle of course, and the quality isn't fantastic, but what really surprised me was the number of extra parts! There's a whole other engine top end, FOUR sets of wheels including a wicked set of rallyes with seperate center caps, just really cool. I think I need to grab the rest of this kit lineup. Anyone else find any goodies in one of these? :smokin:

They did the same thing with those Boyd's Rods or something: Regular kits with lots of optional wheels and some other goodies (Laptops, cell phones, etc).

They should do like GI Joe and sell those optional parts in a separate pack.

Beware, the extra engine is the same in all and is a FORD engine.

All three engines in my kit have a chevy water pump and a rear mount distributor...

From feedback I got on another BB, the block and heads are supposedly some version of a Ford Engine and are the same in all kits where that engine is included. I can't verify it right now, though I have the same Chevelle kit, but the engine didn't look right for a Chevy.

Carrying this a bit further, the engines in the recently released AMT Chrysler 300C and Ecalade EXT are caricatures of the real engines and are not correct. But, since both are covered by the plastic engine covers, it would be difficult to notice once installed.

3 engines in the Chevelle? Do you mean 3 building options?

I checked my kit. There are two engines. One is the standard BB Chevy with 3 build options off one block and set of heads.

The second engine is called the Resto Rod engine. This is the one I was referring to being a FORD engine. It appears it may be but I am not overly familiar with Ford engines. It is not a Chevy engine.

The BB Chevy is a pretty good rendition and, with the 3 options, gives you a lot of different ways to outfit your Chevelle.

My bad, I meant 2 engines and 3 options. And oh well, you can certainly mix and match the top end parts anyway.
