Battery cable corrosion

Hi, I have a 98 Suburban K1500, I noticed that on the positive terminal one of the battery cable connections corroded off completely. This isn't the main battery cable connection, but a thinner wire that's about 8 feet long and runs along the top of the fan and into the firewall on the driver's side and into the fuse box. Apparently I need to replace the wire since it looks like it's 1 long piece, but does anyone know if they make the aftermarket part or where to look? I called the dealer and they wanted $78 which I thought was a little high. Any suggestions?

Go on E Bay and look for batery cables. My 97 Burb has gone thru sevral batteries, ALL leaking from the positive terminal??? I've only paid for one.... I keep buying the GM batteries at the dealer, and they have a replacement warranty. So when mine starts leaking, I return it for a new one at no charge.
Why GM can't fix the problem, I don't know.

You should replace the cables, because the acid goes down thruogh insulator and just eats at the copper and you end up with less conductivity!

I had this problem on my 99. When they installed the electric brake control they wired it to the battery. This extra wire on the terminal broke the seal on the connection. After I moved the wire to the accessory block on the fan shroud I never had any problem with the terminal again.

The design that GM uses for it's battery cables is flawed. The best thing that you can do is convert your system to a top post terminal system, or use some type of lubricant to inhibit the corrosion. The corrosion can be a serious problem, the ABS system use in the Suburban takes a lot of power from the battery, I once had my engine died when stopping while the ABS was engaged. However, once I cleaned the terminals, the power-drain was much lower.
