Trade it or no?

Hey kids. I have the possibility of trading my '97 LS for this '93 Z34.
Mine has 125K, the Z has 127K. They are similar in equipment and condition, he's looking for four doors and better gas mileage, I want the DOHC (I think...:uhoh: ).
We gotta trust each other on the upkeep, we both do our own maintenance and don't have records, but he seems trustworthy, and I can tell another car fanatic/mechanic when I meet one, so I'm inclined to believe him.
KBB values on both are nearly equal, slightly more for my car, but I'm willing to eat that to get what I want. I just feel like I'm betraying an old friend....I like my car a lot, and have run a lotta road under us together.....
What would you do?

The way I look at it is " if it's something I want, I should have it". My wife doesn't always agree with that but she's pretty good.
Test drive the car, make absolute sure that's what you want. You never know the drivers seat could be lumpy as heck and make your left leg go numb. (THis happened to me when I traded a dirtbike for a Ford Ranger)
There's nothing more gratifying then making a good trade for something you want. I like to think of it as a good way of sticking it to the man. I'd do it.
Check the ins. rates just to make sure your not going to screw yourself on all fronts. But it's older so rates will be cheap.
Run a carfax on it. It's only $25 and could give you some insight.
Find a Redhaired boy and rub his head for luck, and if all is even steven...go 4 it :grinyes:
By the way, is your car really slammed like that? It's fricken sweet lookin.

yeah run a carfax on it...and if you have a mechanic you trust, take it in and see if he can look it over and see if anything's wrong with.
make sure you look the entire car over, just to be safe as well...check for things like missing VIN tags on teh body panels, doors, etc to tell if its been repainted/wrecked..
otherwise it looks to be in awesome cosmetic shape!!!

Jeff Jeff Jeff, you do read posts about the 3.4??? Why would you want to own one of those impossible to work on boat anchors?!?!?!? I would suggest against this trade, especially if he can't answer how many times he's changed the timing belt.
BTW....red cars are not evil, my 99 Grand Prix is red.

Jeff, you're smarter than that. Quit thinking with the little head and use your brain. That sexy little red hottie will just break your heart, :cya:

I don't like red, but style wise I understand why you'd want to trade. I might have connections on another board for a carfax if you decide to run the VIN message me with it and I'll get a freebie for ya for all the help you provide around here.

Jeff - of course my opinion will be a little biased.:evillol: Get it. I know you're a gearhead like me, and not afraid of your engine. They really aren't that hard to work on. Its just like having a high-maintenence girlfriend/wife. Sure you have to stay on top of maintenence (which we all should do anyway), but you'll never get a 3.1 to scream like that at 6000 rpm.:naughty:
(I feel ya' on the betrayal tho. If I had a chance to swap mine for something with an L67, I'd have the same dilemma.)
