My stepson is looking at buying a Ram 2500 diesel and he wants me to co-sign for him. It has 67,000 mi, fully optioned, and they are asking $23,000. My question is are these reliable rigs? Is he in for any surprises? I don't want to put my name on the paper if he is going to be disappointed.
I appreciate any feedback.

what he would need to figure out is how will he be driving the rig? if it is a daily driver I personally would not suggest the diesel. but if he will need to be pulling thigns or need a little extra power at times then eys the disel is the way to go. From what I heard they get about 17-20 mpg. a v8 gets about 12-15 mpg. as far as if it is reliable I have a 1500 and haven't had any major problems. But the diesels do have lift pump problems inc ertain years but I am unsure of which years. If he is really considering it and is pretty decent with a computer there is another website that offers a good bit of help in a serperate diesel section on dodgetalk.com and I think there might be a chat forum somewhere specifically for the cummins engine but I don't know the site. overall though the diesels in my opinion are decently built and can last up to 200-300K miles.

I would not cosign though if he can't keep a job or can't make the payments on time or you don't trust him fully to do that. Make sure you set down the rules right away if you do cosign.

Thanks for the feedback. He works steel construction so I am sure he will get his use out of it. As far as the cosign thing goes... he is a great kid and I trust him to take care of the payments. Thanks again for the feedback
