Passenger Side Air Filter?

I have just purchased a 99 extended cab silverado. My book says there is an air filter in the pickup cab. Also in my glove box there is a sticker that says, "compartment air filter located under instrument panel below glove box."

I've looked I can't find an air filter. Is it there? Do you have one and what does it do? Sorry about all the questions.

Thanks in advance,

Trey

just pop that odd looking cover off and there should be a gold or bronze looking screw just take that one out and the protective flap should come off and the filter will be exposed, pull it out and reach in there for the other one

cover is between the floor and glovebox, black, odd shaped, can't miss it

What's the purpose of this filter?

it filters the air coming into your cab, if its clogged the cab will smell stale and moldy

I knew there was something wrong with my truck when it smelled like rotting garbage in the cab and I couldnt find anything dead! Are these filters cleanable or disposable?

They sell them at most auto parts stores. They kind of look like the air filter for your motor but smaller.

Hey guys, just curious. Do all silverado models now have this cabin air filter, or only the nicer models. I have the 04 wt silvy and wonder if it has one since pretty much everything else was stripped out. May want to change it one day, you know.

Found them:) . I didnt hav to take out any gold screw. Mine was just held in by a clip and i just had to use a flathead screwdriver to pop it open. Took me awhile to find tho. Theres instructions on how to do it in your owners manual but not all trucks have them

They also make a charcoal air filter, I will go with that one next time. There are 2 filter elements that fit in the passenger side area, they usually come 2 to a box.

Be sure you change em both. I have heard of some not seeing the other filter in the back. And yes, when these filter get funky, it can really make your truck smell like you riding around with a bag of ass. lol
FYI, found mine here at Pep Boys if anyone is having trouble.

I don't smoke; so I don't think the charcoal ones will do anything for me. Carbon only used in my fish tanks; not my truck.

For those who have replaced their cabin filter, do you think that the Fram filters is worth almost twice as much as a Purolator? Fram-$31.48, Purolator- $16.88 at least around here.

I would just get the cheaper one. That is what I use and replace it every 3 months or so. Works fine for me.

Fram is a dirty name in my book. Do not even ask for a fram. Anything but a fram. :grinyes:

I got some FRAM for $20 I think, It was two filters. you need two of them. It filters the cabin air. My truck had just 38K Miles when I bough it and those filters were brown with green splotches, and had bugs, bees, leaf bits etc. Its definitely worth the trouble. Cab smells fresh and clean now!!
