Bre Datsun 510

I am in the middle of building Pete Brock's Trans Am car driven by John Morton. In photos of this car I have sourced, I believe that the exhaust exits the left side just to the rear of the driver's door. The kit has the exhaust as per the original road car going through the rear cross member and exiting the rear of the car. Can anyone clarify which is correct? Thanks
