cant find sensor

After extracting the fault codes from my 95 escort 1.6 zetec the code 214 (cylinder identification sensor) registered what exactly is this sensor. Could it be the camshaft position sensor or the crankshaft position sensor? From what I can gather all it does is tell the ecu what cylinder to spark at which would give reason for my bad running problems. Should it not be one of the above can it be replaced or is this built into the ecu I am in real desperation
