Drivers seat wear.

I just purchased a 1999 540i 6 speed with sand beige interior. The car has 38,000 miles on it and the ONLY thing I can find wrong with it is that the drivers seat has worn the sand color off in the lower lumbar support area the entire width of the seat but, approximately 3 inches up from the seat cushion, so the area looks slightly dirty but cannot be cleaned. The stitching is slightly scuffed on the center of the seat as well.

Anyone have suggestions on how to "fix" this? Are there creams or dyes out there that can cover this, or is this something an upholstery shop can fix?

The easiest way (though expensive, perhaps) is to order a new cover from BMW. Have you taken it to a dealer to see if it might be a warranty repair? Otherwise, take it to a good auto upholsterer/top shop and see if they can re-dye it.

I have used a leather reconditioner made by Woolies in the UK that works very well. They have a web site I believe. I saw it advertised on a Bimmer Mag and also an English Classic car magazine. The product rejuvenates and dyes that leather nicely. a bit of work, but can make seats look nearly new again.
