1991 PA -> Need tranny interchange info ...

If any knows, could you please advise what year trannies fit a non-ultra 91 PA? The one in my son's car has a crack in the housing!!! Don't ask how! :banghead: Anyway, the car runs way too good to throw away, so I thought I'd change the tranny if I can find a suitable donor. My Hollander interchanges only go to 1985. I'm used to dealing with 60-70's cars, so that would have been a no brainer, but with all this newer stuff, I don't wan't to go through a pile of work to find the tranny doesn't work "cause this sensor won't work with that computer", etc. Thanks. Tom

Just find a 4T60-E transmission. This can be found in all cars that used the NA 3800, like the bonneville, PA, lesabre, regal, century, grand prix, monte carlo, lumina, and others im sure I've forgotten.

If the crack is in a non critical area, epoxy can fix this.

1991 was the first year of the 4T60E. Upgrades were constant during the next few years to eliminate some of the weak spots in the original design. Several final drive ratios were offered also. Most used were the 2.96 and 3.05 ratios. Wiring harnesses were changed also with the conversion to OB11 starting in late 94 and fully implemented by 96. Just be sure that the wiring harness is the same as yours and that the output shaft is the same length.

Thanks for all the info. So, it would seem my best options are 1991-93 trannies. If I get a donor car I can just check the SPID for final drive ratio.

maxwedge -> That was one of my thoughts, but the guy at the tranny shop told my wife to get the car home immediately before it spits parts all over the place, so I'm assuming the crack is in a very critical area. He is a good friend of my brother-in-law, so he wasn't trying to flog anything, he was just being honest. Unfortunatly I wasn't there so I couldn't ask any of the questions aboput interchanging trannies.

Thank you all again,

Tom

:grinyes: I found the TSB for the wiring change on the 4T60E and it started on the 1994 model to accommodate a trans fluid temp sensor. So yes, stick with the 91-93 model unless you want to change the wiring harness and PCM.
