hard start 01 lumina

I haven't had alot of time to read today, so I figured I would post for some quick help.

The 01 Loom is starting hard. It can take up to three times it's normal cranking to start up (if that makes sense?).

She has 112k on the ticker and as far as I know orig. plugs wires exc. The wires look to be in excellent shape, but I knmow you cant tell by looking at them. I have'nt removed the plugs to look at them. What should the gap be?

So what could cause the hard start? It doesn't matter cold or hot, and car runs fine and aver. 23-26 mpg on the highway for my 30 minute commute.

This a.m. the "service engine soon" light came on, but we were driving in very wet slush today and we got splashed alot, so we'll wait to see what happens there.

Many thanks in advance.

Well...I put in a fuel filter plugs and wires. What a son of a B to get those boots off.

The air filter is new 2 months ago.

She feels smoother then before.

Does the $25 scan tool at Walmart work for these cars?

What else should I do besides getting the code scanned to finish the tune up? Any suggestions.

Many thanks.

Clean the throttle body, Put a bottle of Seafoam or Chevron Techron injector clean in it, forget the cel unless it comes back on.

So the wife & I went to the builders show, and then to dinner and I noticed there wasn't this distracting light coming from my dash. The CEL that has been on for 2 weeks went dark.

Could I have possibly fixed something correctly or does the light just go out on it's own? actually probably burned out :grinyes:

Can I leave the throttle body when I spray it? I usually take it off on my V Dub but theres alot more crap to deal with on this Lumina.

Yeah, leave it. I'll just pull the duct off of it and hold the plate open to make sure I get both sides, then start it up and fog it from an opening ahead of the plate, like where the crankcase breather comes into it, and then spray behind it through a vacuum port while running.

The CEL should go off on it's own if you fixed it after a certain number of start cycles (or if you had the codes erased). To see if it burned out, just turn the key on without starting the engine. All your warning lights should illuminate for a couple of seconds, then go off. If the CEL doesn't light, it's burned out. The scan tool at Walmart needs to be OBDII compliant. Unless it's a new model I haven't heard of, it is probably only OBDI compliant and the tool itself just grounds the ALDL (basically a fancy paper clip) with a book of code definitions.

Cool, I'll clean that today. I've been thinking about buying the software to vag com my Vdub, I wonder if it would work w/ my boomina. Their both obd2.
