Fuel Gauge

I have a 1999 chevy tahoe, 350 with the following engine mods:

Duel exhaust
K&N cold air intake
plugs, wires, cap, rotor
Hypertech power programmer III

A couple days ago the fuel gauge started acting up. When I'm driving, it vibrates with occasional jumps, but when I turn the cruise control on it jumps around even more. When I turn the key from off to run (with no engine running) it jumps to past full and then to normal and just vibrates a little. Up unil last week it was completly still with no sign of vibrations. Any Ideas?

I have this same problem. Everyone I ask says its the fuel level sensor attached to the fuel pump assembly. Other than that, no one else has had any ideas.

This is totally off the subject but how much of a perfomance/economy increase did you notice with the Power Programmer? I'm debating on buying one and have been looking for some owner opinions.

The main reason I bought the programmer was for my new 20"x10" rims, but of course another reason I chose the hypertech over just a tire adjustment programmer was for more performance. I also got the 160 powerstat. Overall it's hard to judge since I did put oversized heavy tires on it, but I do notice a little difference. It seems to pull a little more on the highway. Mileage is impossible for me to judge because I had undersized tires on it before I put the oversized ones on. I get about 350 miles to a tank with my new tires. Honestly I was expecting more out of it, but when the truck is cold, it seems to be a lot better. I have to get my transmission flushed so mabye that will make a difference, but the shift settings didn't seem to do too much either. If I was you, I would watch for a used one on ebay. I only paid $160 for both the programmer and the powerstat including shipping on ebay.

Your key is in the "run" position when you're driving down the road, that's how the level sensor gets its power. Lots of posts here related to your problem. Most common cause is the connector at the fuel tank. So check that for corrosion or anything abnormal. Next thing is the sender itself which is a part of the fuel pump assy and as far as I know is not replacable without replacing the whole fuel pump assy. Hope this helps..............Steve
