VW Cabrio is stuck in park

HELLO GUYS I'M NEW TO THE FORUM:grinyes:

I had a question. Does the 1998 VW cabrio have a nuetral safety switch or something similar that will keep the car stuck in park? Normally when I depress the brake, it frees the shifter. I was unsure what went bad, whether it was a fuse, switch, or vacuum related.

MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE

I have had three episodes of my car being stuck in park and even after depressing the brake it still wouldnt move, i basically had to just sit and wait 20 mins or so, the car spent the entire day at the dealers the day after the first time it happened and it didnt do it the entire time.
They checked/tested various things, came to no conclusions.
btw car is 2001

Thats what makes people paranoid about going to "The Stealer", when they knew it was a faulty brake switch:banghead:

thats exactly what it is.. I just fixed this for a friend in her 99 cabrio.. switch was less than 15$s at the stealership. if you crawl under the drivers side by the pedals and look up it is the switch that hits the brake pedal when its fully out.. twist its clockwise and it will come right out and then unclip it and put the new one in.. problem solved..
