Need some help with this plug for the balance shaft removal

Well i did some searching but the only pictures i could find is ones that people are using a frost plug with JB weld to plug the hole. My question is whats going to hold that new oil seal plug in place from falling out?

One thing that my searching did for me is that i need to plug that one hole with a bolt where the balance shaft pully was.

I'm nt completely sure what your question is. Is it about the front balance shaft seal? If so, you dont even use one. Just the plug. The plug can be held in with JB weld, but I recently saw a better solution on the local board. Someone made up a piece of flat steel that covered the plug (using washer to shim the plug up to the plate of steel) and it picked up the three bolts that circle the plug. So its a bit of a triangular plate held down by those three bolts, with wassher to shim to the plug to keep just a bit of pressure on it. No way it can pop out at WOT with that setup :) You can search for pics on www.newengdsm.org/forums if you like. Otherwise, JB it.

OR perhaps your question is about how to hold the rubber coated seal in place, since the JB weld trick seems to be done most on freeze plugs? If so, I would still recomend making the plate mentioned above. But, it's a pretty tight press fit into the bore, and the rubber seems to hold it. I don't think you can JB weld to rubber... The plate idea seems best to me.

I am about to pick up my motor tommorrow from the shop and this has been done to it. I can take a look and tell you how they did it if you want.

If you are lazy and dont feel like trying to find a plug to block the hole, you can leave the front balance shaft in place, and then just dont bother hooking the belt up to it. Just make sure you remember to spin the bearings so that you block off the oil holes for the shaft. If not you will lose alot of oil pressure. Hope that helps some...

I could not find the picture on that site but i believe this is what your talking about doing. What if i put that new oil plug in the hole and put a plate over the top of it so just in case it decides to try to vibrate out!!!
