car alarm!!

How do I disable the car alarm? the thing wont turn off. You turn the key 3 or four times before you get it to disarm. then it still goes off.. Its driving me nuts. Not to mention you cant start the car if its armed. I had to open the hood to get the alarm to go off so I could reset it.
