Hey i need to know which way i turn the distributer to advance the timing. If im on the Driver side, do i turn it clock wise.... or counter clock wise.. and since i dont have a timing light how far should i turn it?
Also has anyone advanced there timing before? I heard it helps but then again iv heard you wont even feel the difference, i was just wondering what kind of results you guys got or what happend? Did it backfire more or sputter or will it cause anything bad to happen?

mine is at 17 degrees, turning tward the firewall advances, tward the bumper retards

yes there is a noticable diffrence, not really when you first do it but when you set it back at 10 degrees youll go damn it got slower....fyi you should run at LEAST 89 octane cuz youll ping a lil if you dont, i ran 91 at 21 degress and had some dt so i backed it down to 17 and it was good

Thanx. I always run premium and sometimes i run the 104 octance boost with it, on a side note... when i ran 91 compared to 87 or 89.. i got MUCH better gas mileage. I dont think Celicas like low octance haha.

I dont have a timing light yet so im gonna have to wait till saturday to go to my grandfathers shop but thanxs for your help, but 1 question. What is "D.T" You said you experienced when you ran 21's ?

Also does anyone know how to make the car run Richer or leaner? im straight piping my celica and i want to get it to run richer so i can get some backfire and flame action going :naughty:
I had str9 pipes to a cherry bomb and when it was hot and i stop at a light it would sometimes flame but it wont so much as sputter or backfire anymore... but i like my flames :icon16:

Lastly... 91 st in your pictures you have a tube running from your intake to your throttlebody? (the blue one) i have that attachment on the intake i made and i was wondering where you ran it so i can hook mine up, or does it make a difference?

DT=dentonation
runing 104 octane will give you no more power or gas mielage, it will actually hurt performance if your not set up for it, its a long explination but pretty much higher octane the harder is to ignite and longer it burns for , with a stock n/a engine it gets to the point where its too hard to light and is actually still burining on the exhaust stroke

FYI if you live in higher elevation you actually want to run lower octane beucase of the thinner air, im at 17 feet so i run 91 on 17 advanced, if i was at 5,280 feet (1 mile uip) i would run 89 or even 87...

you must "chip" your ecu, or get a piggyback or sumthin to that extent, you could get and fmu but it would make it run too rich w out a tuirbo (bumps fuel presure forcing more fuel)....btw advancing/retarding timing is (sorta) like making it richer/leaner

you wont get flames out of an n/a car, plus its stupid youll blow your muffler

and lastly its called a breather tube, you should have it plugged in all celicas have one, it plugs in behind the intake manifold, about 6 inches from the firewall, youll see twehre it oes

maybe an safc (air flow controller) will do a little "tuning" capability for richer/leaner gas...a 200 bucks investment that does almost equal result by advancing/retarding the timing... Sometimes I think I get better mileage while using 89 octane, compared to using 87. Timing advance waste gas though :( while the gain isnt really that substantial... and I thought going lean could also get you more push as long as the air keeps coming in.

Thanx for your help ill play with it and see what i get out of it. I dont think advancing it should be a problem for me because i Live in North carolina about 2 hours from the Coast... So im probably only 500-1000 ft up at the highest point within an hour of my house.
I didnt mean that runing 104 got better gas mileage or that it did anygood... iv just ran it a few times when i go race my friends... but i dont think it does anygood, i havent used it in a LONG time.. BUT i did notice a difference it gas mileage between 87 and 91.

Is that breather hose already plugged in somewhere? or do i need to buy a hose and plug it in?

its plugged in somewhere, behind the intake manifold
and yes i said piggybacks, an saf-c is a piggyback, quite usfull too, ill probably get one for my all-trac
