I recently purchased a rebuilt salvage 2000 dodge caravan sport. My uncle owns a junk yard and had some body work done to it. There is no owner’s manual. I have three questions…First, is there a way to attach a front license plate or is it to be left off? Second, I was not given any remotes but I purchased some off of eBay. Is there any way I can program them myself, if so how? Lastly, a light looking like an engine, I’m assuming the check engine light came on the other day. The van drove fine and by the time I got home it went off. This morning I had to brake quickly and the noticed the light came back on. I called a dealer, I don’t have a manual to check, to see what it is. They told me to bring in the van. I’m worried that they will “over do it” because the van is rebuilt. Is there any way I can do a check myself, prior to taking to a shop? I really appreciate all help and advice. I really do LOVE my new van:lol:

For your check engine light - Scaaarew the dealer! Take it to Autozone, PepBoys or the like. They will connect a scanner and tell you what codes you have for FREE!!! Then get back here and give us the code so we can help.

First, you might need a kit/box for the front plate, maybe ask the dealer for part number.
I don't think you can program the remotes without at least a single working one (if memory serves correctly). If you can find somebody with a DRB III (dealer, friends, shops), it can be done very easily. If you decide to take it to a dealer, you could have them check the diagnostic codes too.

Thanks so much. I will take the van to my local Autozone and see what code they come up with. I'll let you know. Strange..it went off again last night on the way home from work, but came back on again this morning.
