2000 Venture Traction Control Warning / Tail Lights

I have a 2000 venture and for the last several months the traction control warning light will go on for no apparent reason. The Trac Off warning light goes on and I lose the right turn indicator and right brake light. After the car has been stopped and parked for awhile, everything appears to be working properly again. This problem often occurs, when we are on the freeway, changing lanes with the turn indicator on, and braking to take an off ramp. The local dealership has trouble duplicating the problem, has replaced a few circuits, but the problem still persists. Has anyone else had this problem?

I have a 2002 silhouette, and the gm place I took it to replaced a melted brake switch for my traction control service light. I also had two circuit boards replaced for no rear lights at all. I also had no cruise control either when my lights went out. I don't know if you have that problem or not, but just thought I would mention it. I thought it was odd that the circuit boards would have an effect on the cruise control and not the traction problem ,but I guess the cruise is on the same circuit as the lights, at least thats what goodwrench wrote on the bill. Hope this helps.

You might have a short in the rear right tail light. I had similar symptoms on the left side.
take the tail light off and check the wires and the connection in the connector up to the bulbs.
It probably is corroded. I had to solder mine directly to the connecter contacts.
for some reason the lights trip the sensors to the traction control and anti lock brake warning lights. I have a 1997 pontiac. this is from a previous post on 11/15/04 : I actually fixed it.
In my case it was a bad ground on the 6pin connector that goes into the rear light assembly. one of the 6 pins is ground and the plastic around teh pin was melted. THis is a classic symptom of poor connection. poor conection = higher resistance = more heat generated when current drawn through it.
anyway I added a wire inside the housing to that connection point and used a large spade connector for the ground connection. All fixed.
