2000 Cherokee Sport Brakes

My Jeep that was sitting around for a year when I got it started (long story) has been excellent since. Just yesterday I heard grindind from the pass wheel. Took a look and noticed the pads were shot and the rotors cooked. Probably from sitting that long the pads turned to titamium. Anyway I do most all my own fixes and just wanted to know --I'm changing the rotors and pads-are there any brands I should buy over others ? I usually get whats on sale for alot of my fixes but for the Jeep I want to get something good and reliable. I've heard of rotors warping within weeks of installation. Pads and rotors that will compliment each other and anything I should look out for or check while I'm down there. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance--Chris

was just putting around when I found a RECALL for year 2000 brake rotors. It seemed the salt ate them up and caused them to fracture and explode. Anyone hear of this and do I have any recourse at this point in time.

i have a 96 which i bought a couple of years ago i took my in to the jeep dealership for some work and they told me about the recall on the rotors they went and replaced them FREE of charge so i dont thiink it matters when you bought the jeep if you can take your jeep in have them replace the rotors

Seems as there are 2 different size rotors for this year Cherokee. Is there any way of telling which 1 is right other than taking it off and bringing it in to make sure. The sizes on AutoZone are 3 1/16" and 3 3/16 " overall height. Overall height as measured from where. All help will be appreciated.

have you been to the dealership to get your free ones? why buy new ones when you can get them for free

Gonna call em on Monday to find out from my brothers shop. We have an in with a dealership nearby at the parts counter. If thats the case I'll bring her on in.

I recommend bringing it in and getting them replaced by the dealership if it applies and hasn't already been done once. If they won't replace them due to they've been replaced already then the overall height that you are talking about is the thickness of the rotor where the pads make contact. Just remove the wheel and take a tape measure and measure the thickness of the rotor to know which one you have.

Pretty sure its the height when the rotor is laid down to the top of the hub. A 3" thick rotor would be nice but don't think thats it. I'll get back to ya. --Chris

There are two different depth hubs so there are two different depth rotors. The measurement is with the rotor laying flat, measure through the center to the top of the "hat" of the rotor.
If its on the original set of rotors, take her in to the dealer to see if the recall has been accomplished or not. If not, let them put a couple new rotors on.

I dont know about any performance brakes. but i just bought a set of duralast roters and pads from auto zone and they seem to be working just fine for me and it did not even cost much.
