94 volkswagon jetta

Hey I have a question about a 94 jette that my friend has. It would run good but then all of sudden it started running rough. it dousnt want to pick up speed. We noticed a computer on the floor behind the stereo on bottum that was diconnected. If anybody could help me out with that Thanks. All stock. its a vr6.
