Hummer 6.5L TD vs: Hummer 8100 Vortec

Both are H1 models. Hummer has decided to offer the new model next year. In M/T they reported that the 340 hp, 10,000 Lbs Vortec model has a better 0-60 and quarter mile time. I'm just wondering about your thoughts on it. Does anybody have Torque figures on it? I know that the 6.5L makes 430 lbs/ft of wrenching force.
Personally I like the first one better because the new one sounds too GM.

I chopse the 8100 hundred, more power (340hp vs 195) and torque (455lb-ft vs. 430lb-ft).
So the old diesel sucks.

Diesels aren't bad. The new ones, including GM's 6.6 L are good motors. They all get great fuel mileage, they'll run 300,000 miles, and you don't have to run them like a S2000 motor to get the power out of them. I just have a real particular dislike for the 6.5 L that GM hung onto for WAY too long.

If your not interested in pure performance, a Diesel will work fine. BMW and Mercedes have diesels now, even in their prestige models. For around town, they rock!!
The new 6.6 is awesome, the old 6.5 was a shitty dinasour.

i know benz and bmw have diesals.... i remember a couple years ago (probably more than a couple) there was a mercedes commercial where this guy (who is a pro racer, i think he's from F1) is driving down a twisty highway in his mercedes, then he picks some girl up... and rides off.... then she asks "this is a diesel!?!" because it had good power

Unless you saw it in Europe, that must be one old commercial! I can remember "The Brick" commercials from the early 90's (do not pay until 1992!!)

Chris,
Calling the 6.5 a shtty dinosaur is the understatement of the year!! I don't think words can describe the waste of money and metal the 6.5 was.

All civilian Hummers suck they are about the most unreliable POS ever. An old fried of mine had one an he had to take it to the shop every 2 weeks for one thing or another. Every visit costed him about 2 grand or more. BTW, his rich daddy paid for it.
