Compressor and Regulator question

Hello, I've purchased about year and a half a Paasche compressor and a regulator with a moisture trap, I thought to check out the filter if it need to be cleened up or replaced but I have two difficulties:
1. How do I get the bronze filter out? The Instructions are not comprehensible much.
2. How do I know it's time to replace the filter or It need just a cleanup?
