Brakes acting funny..

Problem: Sometimes, very rarely, while coming to a stop just before I stop, the brakes appear to "slip". I feel it in a pettle and then during that I hear a "grinding" noise. Now I only hear grinding when this incident happens. I do not ever hear grinding in the breaks when I stop. Just yesterday when this happened after I stopped at a light, as I started to move the car felt like it was being held back by the brakes when I was trying to accelerate, as I got faster it went away. And hasn't happened since. Today I went over some rail road tracks at a decent speed and my ABS light came on. When I shut down the engine, and restarted just to see if the abs light would stay on it came back on and then went away.

Id like to also mention I got brand new shocks in the front and back.

Anyone have any ideaS? I have not checked for codes yet im going to my mehcanic in a couple hours.

I had my mechcanic look at the bracks themselfs and he said everything looks as it should.

If the brake pads look ok I would consider the ABS.

There was a recall on '99 for the ABS so if you havent done it yet take it to a honda or isuzu dealer and they will replace the ABS module. That might take care of the problem.

I bought this passport used, 110K on it. So no idea if its been done.

I'll take it in tommarrow they should be able to tell if its been done yet.

I have a 1999 Rodeo that has had the exact same problem. I've noticed it mostly if I hit a bump while trying to stop. I have had the car (and the problem) since 33k and now have 90k.

I recieved a notice in the mail about 4 months ago that stated that Isuzu recalled something that has to do with the ABS system. They described the same brake "slipping" symptoms in their recall. Supposedly, all I have to do is take the car to any Isuzu dealer and they will fix the problem for free.....I have not done this yet, but plan to soon.

You might want to check and see whether this recall applies to the Passport - since they are essentially the same car.

I called my local honda dealer and gave the vin number, they said the car applied to the recall but its already had its recall done.

well, obviously whatever they replaced or repaired wasnt enough.if its still showing signs of what the recall describes, then I would take it to the honda dealer and have them take a look @ it. BTW, ask them to show you were in their system the recall was done...

I went through the RECALL process (ABS recall) and in the 1st year the repair was useless, I still get that grinding brakes after hitting a hump or depression on the road. The 2nd year i never noticed it maybe because of adjusting my driving habits or me getting familiar with the car.

One result will be uneven brake pad wear thereby shotening it's life.

Sorry that didnt help any. I dont know of any other way to fix it.

I have never noticed the problem with mine either before or after having the recall done. I may not have had the same conditions yet either though.
