Tachometer Problems

I just recently picked up a virgin 94 Si with only 80k miles. Previous owner was a woman, weekend driver. Everything is kosher except for one problem: I think something is up with the tach. Here are the syptoms: When Idling warm the tack will read 1000-1200 RPM (doesn't sound like it), and 2100ish when cold (once again doesn't sound like 2100 to me). I was on flat freeway, windows up, roof closed going 70, and the tach read 4K. So I accelerated to a steady 80, read 5K rpm. Let off and cruised at 60, then 55.... read 4k rpm. I "tached it out" and the fuel cutoff hit at 7200'ish. Does any of this sound normal? Lemme know if you need pictures, I'll get some tomorrow. Like I said none of the rpm's feel or sound as they read. Isn't idle supposed to be that first dash past the "0"? Oh and I love how the passenger side a/b takes away your glove box LOL. Other than that I love my bb4.

Another odd thing happened, I was in the turn lane with the blinker and stock radio (lol) on and stalled it (used to my Nova's clutch). Tried to restart it, and it was a no go. Didn't even turn over more than 3 times. Turned off radio and blinker, started right up. Tired to repeat it in a parking lot, no luck.

Any thoughts would be very helpfull.

I was driving up a hill today and the tach danced back and forth from 3K-to-4k. It's off to the Honda dealership on saturday. Get this done right.

i have a 93 si and at 70 its a little lower than 4 grand and at 80 its on 4 grand...one thing i wanna know is that ur cut off was at 7200ish? redline is 6500....explain

Well if my tach is off by a few hundred RPM's then my engine will still R/L at 6500, but be shown as the diffence. Some cars' give you a few hundred past the R/L as well. My old Mazda's R/L was 6K, but was allowed 6300, Nissan Sentra rental was 6500, it saw 6800. Is the Si supposed to c/o @6500? The previous owner was a weekend driver woman, so I know that the ECU is not modded.

Okay, I finally got a picture of the tach. Now the cars sounds like it's at about 1000 or so, but look at the tach. This is upon cold-start.
