Battery Terminal Corrosion.

I noticed my 1999 Ram 5.2 was showing a lot of corrosion on the battery terminals. I cleaned the cables and the battery posts with a water and baking soda solution and a tooth brush. Isn't there some kind of conductive grease that I can put on these terminals to slow down the corrosion?

Yes there is a grease and a spray, but it will do you little good now. to stop the corrosion you need a new posative cable. Once the corrosion starts it travels up inside the cable, then no matter what you put on it or how many times you clean it, it comes back. If you were to cut the insulation off you would see it all through the strands of cable. If you use the anti corrosion on new cable it makes it last much longer, but it is almost a waste to use on corrode cable

Pick up a set of these anti-corrosion washers at any auto parts store and they will help. If the cables are corroded bad, they should be replaced. If the battery is old, you may also be subject to more corrosion.

This is a top post battery, the cables are in excellent condition and the battery is only a year old.

dielectric grease, about a buck or two, will help keep moisture out and keep corrosion from forming. Wont fix a corroded cable but works real well. Use it sparingly on all electrical connections under the hood.

basically anything approved for electrical would work, as far as a grease. I wouldn't use a spray. the biggest thing is not too much, but enough to keep the air from getting to it, which causes oxidation, and thus corrosion.
