My short shifter broke!!!

My OBX short shifter broke!
Dammit - I am pissed.
I have my shift knob with about 1.5" of shifter in it sitting here at my desk, and a li'l nubby sticking out of boot with a sharp edge to shift with. The bitch sheared off right at the bottom of the threads. :mad:
Ok - thanks for letting me vent. I shoulda bought the more expensive (better quality?) DC Sports one to begin with :rolleyes:

That sucks...so anyone have a suggestion for which brand that might last a little longer than the 8 months this crappy OBX did? Or should I just go back to my stock shifter? :confused:

...at least it broke there and not down at the ball...then you're screwed til you crawl under the car... I've heard of everything from OBX to STR shifters breakin...you just never know I guess :( go stock ;) hehe.

Don't buy a Tenzo then :). Mine broke - the exact same way - about a year & a half ago. I'm just too lazy to replace it, and too cheap to buy a Neuspeed like I should've done in the first place.

haha...that's funny. I got the OBX short shifter with Neuspeed bushings...I shoulda just bought the Neuspeed shifter too :o
I e-mailed OBX to see if they offer a warranty on their products. We'll see if they respond...I don't really want another one tho if it is just gonna break again :confused:
And yeah Jason, at least I can still shift the thing.. that little nubby gets f-ing :flamer: hot though after about 15-20 minutes of driving. :D lol :D

wrap the end of the broken stick with some duct tape or something, and attach like half of a tennis ball on there for a grip, now thats ghetto.

Hey, if money is no object get a Skunk 2 short shifter. They cost $130, but they are made of steel rather than aluminum, so it wont break. I however took the opposite route and bought a generic one off ebay for $35! I'm putting it in this Sat, hopefully it wont take all freakin day.

I've got a question...
I just ordered my DC sports short shifter (well... about 3 weeks ago anyways). But I was curious if anyone's ever just chopped an inch or two off of the stock one? That should work right? The only hang-up I can think of is that the stock knob wouldn't fit anymore, but an aftermarket one would...

my friend just torched his stock shifter which is a lot cleaner that a hack saw but you will have to get a different shift knob! I know that ractive knobs come with rubber pieces that go over your stick so that you don't have to screw it on!:D

So, why the hell did I just shell out $109 for the short shifter? What's the difference? It looks cool? It has a DC Sports logo on it? WTF?!

That is NOT the same thing as a short shifter.

It's not the length of the shifter above the pivot ball that determines whether it's a short-shifter or not. It's the distance between the pivot-ball and where it mounts to the linkage (longer = shorter throw). Hold your stock shifter up to a short-shifter and line them up at the pivot-ball so you'll see what I mean.

One Word... B&M ... shit this thing is nearly impossible to break.
I got the Edge shifter (seen as low as 45$) works great and B&M has been making shifters for years.

cutting the top will shorten it, but not as much as lengthening the bottom. I made a custom one for my 1G by cutting the bottom off and welding it back together with a spacer. I still have it if anyone is interested.
