Well i finally got the motor for the SOB, so that should be started here real soon. Car is going to be almost completely stipped, except for carpet pretty much, im going to sheet metal the doors (taking off door panels) and im making my own dash, which will consist of an S13 gauge cluster, gauges, and regular switches....mirrors, trunk popper, and fuel popper...

This summer, i should have it repainted inside and out, and possibly some new wheels, and turbo setup slowly coming togather...;)

Im also throwing a 5 point cage in it too...help out with the tracking it

hmm putting in a KA into a Rx7... how interesting.

So does that make it a Rx-13? or... a S-7? KA-7?

hehe.

no you weren't playing, they are old piles LOL, but they sure are fun to drive and have nice potential. Like any 25 year old car though, they need some modernizing

sorry if you mentioned this already but why?

driftking777
03-08-2006, 01:41 PM
why what? why am i putting a KA24DE in it? well...#1 i've never seen it, #2 becuase i have a KA24DE laying around not used, and the rotary needs fixed, and i dont feel like dealing with the rotary madness. #3 I go with what i know, and i atleast have somewhat of a clue what im doing with Nissan motors. #4 It will be an intersting project, and this is the line of buisness that im going into, customizing cars. I wanna learn all i can while i can, and while i have the money.

not why on the engine..... thats cool, dont blame ya there... but why on the whole car? what are your plans for it after you finish it?

driftking777
03-08-2006, 02:18 PM
as far as plans...lol its going to be my daily driver actually...lol. im looking for 350-450whp...and it to be as good at AutoX as it is drag. all around fun car...it gonna kinda turn into a roadster type of car. no real comforts, just power windows and mirrors...lol

id figure it would be 1) start project 2) finish project 3) have fun with project 4) sell project and move on to another. Thats what most people do with project cars, or just projects in general. Thats how my dad is. he builds a truck, then builds a trailer for it, now hes building a camper trailer for it. He never stops with these projects lol

my project will probably last me throught college unless I drift it into a wall or something, this thang is never done! (but all my $ is gone =( )

No doubt, i'll probably finish this in a year or so, have it completely turbo'd, drive it around 6 months and sell it for a nice price. Thats kinda the way i am with cars to. I dont really keep them around very long, beucase i tend to want to try something new, hense the Rx7 project all on its own.

when you finish the rx-7 project I got something for you that will keep you occupied for prolly a good year or two or three ahaha

i think the ultimate project is turning a fwd car into a rwd car.... now that is totally unique and endless in what you can make and setup with customization. I also think, sold to the right person you could make a lot of money if you do the work yourself. I mean what kind of rich kid who loves drifting and civics give for a rwd drift civic? 20g's? more? maybe.... there are people out there with more money then they know what to do with, such a novelty item is worth a lot.

or maybe a new Celica... they look nice but are just gay ass FWD. how about a RWD maxima or SE-R? Civic, prelude, accord.... 3000gt.....

Skylindrftr

Theres a guy around my area that made a rwd crx/old civic (i forget which, they look really similar)

actually this whole project reminds me, my next project car will be a turbo mazda motor in a festiva. 200whp and it should run low 13s high 12s. let the mockery commence. but enough with me, i love the idea of a ka powered rx7. good luck and keep us updated.

driftking777
03-10-2006, 12:48 AM
well actually Vortec, a FWD-RWD conversion, wouldnt take as much time as you might think. Specially, concidering if you think about it, the hardest part would be making the Driveshaft tunnel, after that, its the same as anything else, besides maybe custom brackets for a solid rear axle.

Well I just got back from Twisted Customs (the peeps making my motor/tranny mounts, and 5 point cage. said they can do all that for $300. So my only next problem is finding a uncut KA harness. And i have everything else, besides the Painless wiring fuse box im going to use. After that, everything should roll down hill. Well actually i guess i still have the rear end to buy, and the driveshaft...then its down hill from there.

Will keep everyone updated...and with pics...so stay tuned

im sorry what kind of diff are you putting in it?

a KA-T rx7 is defintely going to be cool, I've seen a few SR swaps.... can't wait for those owners to find out your putting a KA into one and flame you lol
:grinno:

you know I personally have nothing against you, but I just think its wierd when people don't even mention weights or distribution when you talk of putting the KA into a Rx-7, but I get flamed to hell when I say im putting a v8 into a rx7........ (I guess its foreign vs domestic type thing in the end)KA's are not a lightweight, but hey with weight comes durability and strength, im not a big weight reduction nazi, more weight overall to the car is worth the trade-off if it brings with it something good... you can have the lightest car out there made, lets start with a 1st gen CRX for example, yeah it might be light for the track or make it go faster with less horsepower, but in the end you get a flimsy, cheap, tiny, car that rattles when you fart and its parts that take a hard beating are very small and weak. There is a middle ground here people. I'd bet some money that there are heavier cars out there then our 240's that will smoke us like a 10 dollar blunt on a race track.

driftking777
03-10-2006, 06:33 PM
well actually the KA really isnt that heavy, its actually almost the same weight as a SR motor, with the turbo stuff. add the turbo to a KA, you only adding around 50lbs...and that isnt that big of a deal. also...talking to one of the more knowledgeable RX7 tuners in north america, and he says that V8 rx7's handle rather well actually, aparently some of the extra weight up front actually makes it grab alittle better. But anyways...i'll be running a Ford 8" in the rear...so i'll also be adding some weight to the rear, so the weight dist. should stay about the same. And KA's arent really that much more wieght than the rotary.

going with a mustang style rear end?

mustang suspension?

mustang T-Lok differential? haha

those work pretty good actually I just drove a 5 speed 5.0 GT and I think the posi worked pretty damn nice with the manual............

sometimes a good locking lsd or a actual locker can act quirky manuevering around with it in gear, nuetral it goes away... but this was pretty well mannered without giving it much gas.

driftking777

no im going with the RX7 suspension, the 8" is with custom mounts to fit ;)

exactly my mind set. except i dont have power windows or mirrors. I wont have anything lol. This project sounds sweet. Best of luck to ya. Sounds like its rolling right along rather nicely. Definantly keep us posted. Ka-t's slowly mixing into other makes. Thats a cool thing.

driftking777
03-13-2006, 06:17 PM
well the only reason its making the mix into other makes, is becuase thats all i really know as far as import tuning is SR's and KA's...i dont really like rotaries...so...there fore KA-T it is. BTW...only reason why im having power windows and mirrors, is to cut on the cost of buying ones to replace them...since its already all power ;)

Skylindrftr
03-13-2006, 06:27 PM
sounds like the reason the japanese use to swap sr's and rb's into every other car out there...they've done some weird swaps, mercedes (y's engineering), Supra, 86, President etc...

Vortec-Rx7
03-13-2006, 06:47 PM
yep, I saw like a 1998 or newer Mercedes Benz with a carb'd american v8 in it.. wtf did he blow his motor and spent all his money to get a benz and can't afford the maintenance? Chevy's v8's are cool, but there are limits. Putting one into a new style big body Benz is just kind of ridiculous if you ask me.

its not that bad since it's still a KA to SR swap, but I saw a video of a nissan pick-up 4x4 I believe, that swapped a SR20-T and was beating the F out of it offroad, was somewhat different, but kind of a wierd truck motor if you ask me.

I can see motor swaps into Rx-7's, they are nice stylish cars that handle good and can be bought cheap, The rotary is just too different and only in a few select applications anyhow, it is probably one of the best cars out there in the world to do a motor swap on....

Skylindrftr
03-13-2006, 06:57 PM
Im kinda a purist when it comes to swaps, rx-7 should stay rotary but whatever shits diff for everyone, ive seen everything from 2jzgte, rb26dett, sr20det, ls1 etc in them...most swaps are fine i guess...
About the mercedes, I was talking about Y's Enginerring which is swapped with a rb26dett, I think it had a t78 or t88 in it...

oh i understand. Mine DOESNT have it....i would keep it if it did. But i do have my SE hatch doors that are full power....so im thinking i may use those. I may just go ahead and paint both sets of doors and switch them out whenever lol. I mean a basic door swap takes no time....

hows the sputter problem coming along for the ka? Figure it out yet??

still have yet to figure out the sputter problem...i pulled the ka-t for now from the daily driver ranks, and have the widebody doin it...lol atleat until i get the coilovers, ruca, kaaz, energy bushing kit in...then i'll start to work on the motor of the Ka-t...would just like to feel 100% good driving it before i worry about the sputtering...so it sits right now in the driveway

yea i understand. All that suspension will probably make a big difference in the feel...... Tell us your opinion/experiences with the kaaz too. Like a little write up or something lol. Not on installation or anything unless you want, that would be a nice sticky, but just the overall performance of it.

Just realized this was posted..lol. Are you only wondering what the Kaaz is going to make a diff on a 400whp car, or just in general? becuase im running the Kaaz right now on my Widebody, and love it. Every part of performance is effected in a good way by the diff. Drifting is now alot more capable of being steadily controlled, Traction is 100x better, and driving the car hard throught the twisties seems to make the car more planted feeling with it...and if the rear end does scoot...easy to pull back in. (you can also feel when the rear is going to go much much sooner) all in all its a more direct feel. Only down side to the diff (which mine is a 2way) is the clunking when doing really sharp turns from a dead stop. (which is suppose to happen) 1.5 ways arent as clunk, but dont have the same performace as the 2way...and this is my review for the kaaz. Best 800 bucks i spent on the widebody.
