99 Silverado ext cab wind noise

Just purchased a 99 Silverado ext. pickup. I've noticed a ton of wind noise coming from the side glass in the "extended" part of the truck. Anyone have or know of a fix for this.

Thanks in advance,

Trey

The latches just don't pull hard enough to keep them sealed up when you get moving....Heard of one guy that said dealer had "updated" latches they replaced them with. Mine do it, though I think I am going to just beef up the gasketing some how.

not sure if I helped.

My problem is I live 60 miles from a dealership. I may try a little insulation tape around the window ... just don't want it to look bad. I may see if I can find a replacement latch for the window. Any ideas where to look?

If they have updated latches, they didn't put them in my '06. It's going back to the dealer soon, I'll post their fix...if they fix it.:)

Mine is a 2000 I have had for about a year now and it is noisy as hell. I thought it was just my truck until I got in my dad's new 06 EC and his was the same way, maybe even worse, so I guess that's just one of those things that are "normal". If you come up with a way to rig it up to make it quiet and look good then please let us know. I never open those windows, so it would just have to look good closed. I also catch a bit of noise from the huge gaskets next to my head for the back EC doors. I tried to loosen the door catch deal and knock it in a little bit so that the door would close tighter, but that didn't work. Just made the door to where I have to slam it now. But hey, it's a truck. Not a Cadillac. lol It runs it's ass off and that's the main thing.

i heard of someone puting silicone on the gasket around the window and then shutting it and letting it dry and they said that it stuck is shut and it was quiet but i haven't tried this so i am not sure. i have never even used those windows in my truck and luckily i dont have the noise.

I've had the same problem for 6.5 years. It's gotten louder now that the seals have gone bad. The latch doesn't latch, it just shuts. Since i havent gotten it fixed, i doubt i will by sales time.

my latch didnt shut all the way so i put a piece of folded up paper towel in the latch and it works great actually..

That sounds like a winner. Sounds like none of us ever use those windows anyway. I wonder if the silicone will peel off easiliy for when it comes time to sell the truck? I think the idea the other guy had of going to Home Depot and getting some peel and stick foam weatherstripping would be the way to go. You could stick it onto the glass and it would shut real tight. Just wonder if you would see the adhesive from the outside? I am going to try that this weekend.

i fixed mine by using the foam for toppers. it is sticky on one side and foam on the other. i just cut it in long enough strips and about 1/2 inch wide and ran it all the way around the window right next to the original seal. when the window is closed you dont even know it is there. any type of adhesive foam should do the trick.

I don't have a problem with the ext cab windows, my noise is from the driver and passenger doors. Anyone know if an auto parts store sells the door seals or is it a dealership thing?

you could go to the dealer or try a company like jcwhitney.com they have a lot of parts for cars.

I got a fix. Okay guys, here's what I tried and it worked. I got some window sealant tape like you use on storm windows. You can get it at any hardware store. I sealed the tape to the pickup and allowed the window to pull shut tight against it. It really tightened up the window and last night I went on a trip out of town and the wind noise was gone. YES!

The dealer fixes this issue by shooting screws through the latch to tighten them up. It is a long screw, similar to a drywall screw. I think it is a much better solution than silcone sealing your window shut!:grinyes:

Roll your window down, and 'tweak' the top of the door in. Just put your knee against the door and pull on the top, don't go overboard.....just a little. If you don't want to do it, take it to a body shop, they'll do it for you.
