94 sts northstar engine swap problem

I have a friend that has a 94 sts ,when the original 4.6 northstar engine let go he had it replaced with a 96 model northstar engine which blew up also,so now it has a 93 model northstar engine installed but the problem is that the fuel injection harness is not the same it is different where it plugs into the computer harness ,his mechanic said that it is an early 93 model engine which has a different intake that has four bolts instead of eight like the newer engine and that the newer model harness cannot be used on the earlier intake,so I was wandering if anyone has a clue on what could be done to get this thing running again.
