Oil... what kind?

Ok, so with my DSM going to be here in about a week and a half, I have been planning/contemplating everything I am going to do to it. First off its going to get all the maintainance done. One thing I'm not sure on yet is the oil. Anyone use that new Quaker State Q stuff? Any good? What about Royal Purple, worth the $5.50 a quart? The Royal purple will probably happen later when I get bigger turbo or do anything between the valve cover and oil pan, but until then I will probably go Mobil 1. I know, I know, detergent blah blah but I know of quite a few people that use Mobil 1 and everything goes fine. Any comments/suggestions?

Who bloody says its "detergent?" They are fags, I use mobile one and I know EZ uses it 2, no problems what so ever. I use 5/30 because its so damn cold here. fully syn of course

I use Mobil 1 in the Firebird and it seems to work fine... As far as I know at least... lol You might wanna look into some Amsoil for your Talon. Its really good stuff. The only problem I have noticed with a full synthetic in a DSM though is the lifter tick gets so much worse. Of course if you upgrade to the V2 lifters it will eliminate that problem. :)

I switched to synthetic after i bought mine. It had 145k on it and soon after the oil pan started leaking. Just something to think about.

I also use Castrol GTX 20-50 and also put a Bosch oil filter. The coldest it gets here is 35F and that's only at night. During the day it never gets below the 50s and plus I need the thickest oil I can get for my engine with 164k miles. The engine is running very quiet, no lifter ticking and no other problems.

Castrol GTX and bosch oil filters all the way. I put 5w-30 in my car and it has a 110,000 miles on it, and i havent had a single problem with the car yet. I change my oil every 2,500 though because my car is ran at redline and around there a lot.

I've used mobil 1 on all three of my dsm's, it doesn't cause leaks, the leak was already the it was just gummed up with shit, do you want that shit in other places in your engine?

I wouldn't really recommend a FRAM filter after all the bad reviews and tests companies have made on them but it's your car.

I would not use fram, they are junk!!!! i have Cut one apart, they are cardboard inside and glued together thats right GLUED!!! I have also read some very bad horror stories about people using fram. The glue breaking down and the insides of the filter falling apart.

Is Royal Purple supposed to be leaky or something? I figured at almost $6 a quart and with SBR selling it, it must be the good shit. What about this amsoil? Good stuff eh? Cost doesnt matter much, its going to be a weekend/very occasional track car and I would be suprised to get 3000 miles in a summer. I think I will change it more often, and I am going to not use Royal Purple since I cant get it locally. So Mobil 1, Castrol GTX, and Amsoil seem to be the most suggested. How much is that Amsoil? Where can I get it?
