90 Rough Idle V-6 Problem

I have a 90 V-6, 4-Runner that blows cold air out of the heater. When I open the radiator cap to let the air bubbles come out here's what happens. After the engine has warmed up and the thermostat is open, it boils, spews, and steam comes out of the radiator. Any ideas as to what now is going on?? It's making a mess of the driveway :banghead:

I got that problem too when you give more gas into it and the engine will vibrate but if you slightly press on the gas it will go smooth but if to much it will vibrate, did you change the spark plugs? distributor cap, and wire? and also make sure your left and right injector are screw tight at 13 lbs. of torque, there should be 2 screw on each of them and maybe I am thinking you are having the head gasket leak and may cause lost of coolant so did you have that V6 recall? call TOYOTA and get ready for your VIN# and see if the recall is still on the effect. reply back about that cause I need mine to be check too. I do think that my fuel fitler or the MAF is bad.

ive had the same problem with my 94, temp went up one day, then the engine ran rough with a skip, replaced headgasket, and everything ran pretty good. Also had several problems with vacumm leaks that made it run rough, give it some gas and it smoothed out.

I would do the following:

1)Place a napkin/paper towel over the tailpipe for a few minutes and smell it or see it for coolant residue
2)Perform an cooling system compression check
3)Perform an engine compression check
4)Perform a leak down test
5)Perform a fluid analysis test by buying a fluid analysis kit for $15-20 at any local Caterpillar dealer or any heavy duty repair shop that repairs bulldozers, cats, backhoes, big rigs & more.
6)There is a headgasket recall on most of the V6 engines used in Toyota trucks & 4-Runners,see below

You have an air pocket in your cooling system. This will affect your idle. This just happened to my '93 22re after replacing thermostat, water pump, radiator, and all coolant hoses. Park with the front of your truck uphill and make sure your radiator is open and not all the way full. Let it run, heater on full for a while. It will burp, spew, etc... This is good. The air is coming out. Once you notice all the burping is done, fill 'er up. Good luck. It also helps if it is a little warmer outside. Today would be a good wet day in good 'ol SLC.
