turbo just died?

i have a 92 talon with a 14b turbo. i had the turbo off a week or so ago and chekced it out cleaned it and all that good stuff. now i went out with a couple friends this morning and everything was fine i hit boost a couple times nothing real hard but i was running 11.5 lbs like i should be car running good.

now i get in it to go to the store and i had no turbo at all i hit maybe a 1lb of boost if it was actually boosting at all. i searched for leaks and my jpipe was about off but i fixed it and found no other leaks anywhere im runing 15 on my vaccum so i dont think anything else is leaking that i cant find. do you think the turbo just blew or should i rip it back off and check it out im just stumped

i just bought another turbo off pr_ricer so it isnt such a big deal if its blown but that just doesnt make any sense to just die all of a sudden

just check it out, can't really tell you, how much shaft play did you have on it?

I'm hoping to get the money tomorrow so I can send you the new one. Figure 3-4 days from when I get the money and you should get it and be boosting again

man i thought that should of been there saturday if it doesnt come let me know so i can see whats i up i shipped it 2 day. but yea thats cool i figured i would have it by the end of the week

So the turbo is in good condition? Then i doubt it's the turbo. Check for a boost leak, do you has a boost controller?

no i dont have a boost controller im running almost completely stock. i think i found the problem i just bought an aftermarket boost gauge and installed it. and i went for a drive to see if it was all good and i couldnt hit very much boost but it pulled real hard before that. i found that the cotter pin that holds the wastegate on was broke and just flopping around so i think i over boosted it but im not sure. it spins freely and has very little shaft play but there is a little blue smoke coming out the exhaust when just slightly boosted.
the turbo doesnt sound like it boosts at all no noise but has free movement makes no sense to me

If the control arm for the waste gate wasn't attached you wouldn't have been boosting at all because the wastegate holds the flapper closed so it would be open all the time.

oh well that explains alot then maybe my turbo is alright, man and i could be driving it not getting a ride from my old lady

i need to start thinking about that little stuff instead of going straight to the big
