Can somebody tell me what the secret is to the wire wheel cover (hub cap) locks? My inlaw had a flat the other day and the tow truck driver removed the wheel cover, I have the tool that came with the car and tried to put it back on but I can't seem to figure out how the stupid lock works, I tried removing the lock on one of the other wheels to try and figure out how the stupid thing works but it won't budge. The owners manual is no help at all.
Thanks in advance!!

Thanks for the reply tman. While trying to put the wheel cover back on I was turning the nut clockwise (even tried counterclockwise) but the nut just keeps turning and doesn't tighten, I can't seem to figure out what the nut is supposed to tighten onto.
Thanks again

THe plastic green nut tightens onto a spindle that sticks out from the hub of the wheel. upon removing the green nut, the wire wheel cover is still held in loosely by tabs. be careful of the valve stem placement and putt the wheel cover off. Now all thats left is the steel wheel, which is held on by 5 nuts.

The green tape screws onto the end of the axle in the center of the wheel. Look at the inside of the green tap to be sure the threads aren't stripped out of it. It sometimes was difficult to get the t hing to bite onto the center stud threads when I put the wheel cover up to t he wheel and slipped it in.

You might try taking off one of the others to see the threads inside on them. Suggestion is when using the tool to grip the tap to tighten or to remove, push in firmly to be sure the little tab gets a firm grip. Mine kept slipping and eventually wasn't good enough to grip and work.

I had the same trouble and took my dremel and cut a straight slot across the holder nut, then flatened a 3/4" piece of copper tubing on the end and drilled a hole on the other end to use a rod or screwdriver and now I have no trouble with getting the locking nut on or off.

Thanks for the info guys, I appreciate it. Know that I know just how it's supposed to work I'll give it a try again as soon as I get a chance and the weather cooperates.
