trunk adjustment

Hey there, My brother in law just bought an '04 Alero. I looked at it from the back and it didn't look quite right. Turns out the trunk is not adjusted properly and is higher on the driver side than the passenger. I popped it open and the torsion bar is in the middle adjustment hold on the driver side and the lower position on passenger. It doesn't leak, just want to straighten it out for him. The dealer said they can't fix it cause they are not a body shop@! Its not bent, just not adjusted properly. I tried to pop out the bar and move it down like I can on my taurus, but this is waay different and won't budge. Whats the secret to moving the adjustment bar down? Thanks in advance!

I don't know if this will help but my driver's side is on the lower hole and passenger on the middle. I thought adjusting the torsion bar springs just adjusted how the trunk lid would stay up on its own and snap to the open position. I'd exercise adjusting the torsion bar. Good luck!

Thanks, but thats just the thing, it also doesn't spring open, it just pops the release and you have to pull it up. Plus its crooked, when closed it sticks out on the driver side and is pulled in on the passenger side. I think I can fix it if I just adjust it. I looked at it the other day and it looks like the whole stupid trunk hinge has to come off to adjust, anyone back this up?

Yeah, I looked at it and I don't see how it can be adjusted while installed. It looks like the trunk lid needs to be removed off the two hinges first and then the hinges removed with the torsion assembly intact. However, note that to remove the hinges you will need to remove the rear speaker package tray in order to get at the each of the two bolts securing each hinge. Good luck!
