99 Millenia Key Lock Issues

Ok, so my friend calls me up for help cuz she cant get her key out of the ignition. I'm thinking its something simple, that she is just not turning the key back all the way or something. Well I was wrong. I tried everything, checked all the fuses, and the key does not turn all the way back to allow removal. For some reason though, when the Radio (10A) fuse from the driver side box is taken out, the key will turn back and be taken out. Any ideas of what it could be? I'm open for anything.

the problem is down in your gear shifter. she probably spilled some coke or coffee down there and has gummed up the linkages of the shifter. the park lock rod has come out of the park lock actuator and that is why you cant get the key out. this is more common in colder weather, as the sugar tends to really get thick and sticky in the cold weather. use some hot water to dissolve the gunk and reposition the rod in the actuator

Could it not also be that the steering wheel is not locking properly? I have a similar problem on occassion (including not being able to turn ignition to start). The steering column does not seem to lock tightly into place. I have a 1995 Millenia.

I have had the same issue with my 99 occasionally. I find that I have to rotate the steering wheel a little then the key comes out. Hasnt happened often or with greater frequency so I have hoped it wasnt a major issue:-(
I did find that in these instances I also couldnt rotate the key to start the car.

Yeah, sorry I was out of town so I couldnt respond sooner. But its not the simple things like turning the steering wheel or turning the key all the way back. I will look into the gear shifter suggestion that was mentioned, then post up and let you all know.
