02 1500 hd front drive shaft

I was under my truck today and noticed that the front drive shaft would not turn by hand. The front tires were off the ground and the tranny was in park. I could spin the front tires and the shaft would not turn. I seem to recall that the front shaft should turn by hand when it is not in 4wd.
Please let me know...
