Rear Differential

I own a 1994 Gmc Sierra and was looking to get a rear differential for my truck. I was told that i could weld the *Spider Gears* thus locking them and saving me alot of money. I dont really know much about this considering i dont see why i would do that and most likely it would break. If anyone has ever heard of such things please let me know.

And im open for suggestions.

That would work if you NEVER plan on getting that truck on hard pavement again. I wouldn't ruin a good axle in a truck you drive every day.

first, you do not want to weld the gears together. it will weaken the gears, and it will make it very hard to turn corners.
what you want is either a limited slip carrier, which has clutches in it, with springs and spider gears. it allows slipage so you will be able to turn corners.

the other option is a locker spool. this unit is like a straight axle, it will let you turn corners, but it will make a clicking noise as you turn.
it uses springs, and the 2 halves have large teeth that interlock together, and will come apart to allow a small amount of slippage.

yes both options cost money, but welding the spider gears together will end up costing you alot more when they break and damage the ring and pinion gears.
