thermostat sensor

i was talking to a mechanic earlier this week, and he said a simple trick to gain a lil horsepower is to buy a cold sensor that tricks the thermostat into thinkin its running cooler... and seems how i have more air getting in due to my CAI, would it help? what kind of problems would it cause? i dont care about the extra loss of fuel... thanks...

I dont think so because ur computer would already adjust to the CAI and all your doing is adding more fuel and running rich.

you dont think it would add more power?? all together with the cai and sensor i thought it would add more air and fuel... im not thinking of doing it, i am going to be getting a new throttle body eventually and injectors... but it is a thought.

You would probably damage the catalytic converter by tricking the computer into thinking the engine is stone cold 100% of the time....that rich mixture will flood the plugs and build down in the cat con where it would cause a superhot burn and turn your converter monolith into a rock hard brick,plugging the exhaust system and ruining gas mileage and performance.Not only that,the EPA wouldnt like you for creating more pollution than they and GM originally agreed to.

i would NEVER, and i mean NEVER, deal with that mechanic again, IF he recommened that. what he was talking about basically is these little resistors you can buy on ebay (or radio shack) and they do trick the car into thinking its getting colder air so it gives it more fuel, hence more power, even though it does work, your engine has nothing to burn that extra fuel, so after about a week or 2 your gonna have all of this carbon and shit build up on your valves causing a HUGE power loss, in less then a month you will have less power then you originally started with, and yes, it does rape the shit out of your catylic converter
