signal/indicator fault

hi
got a slight problem with my signal/indicators.
they both work fine when the engine is switched off, but as soon as i start the car the left hand indicator flashs very rapidly, and the right hand one works normally. when i turn the ignition switch to the on position they both work fine, its only when i actually start the car they go wrong. the ignition barrel is only about 12 months old, have checked bulbs and they all fine. obviously it sounds like there is a short somewhere, but where do i start looking. could it be the ignition barrel, or the signal arm itself.:banghead:
any thoughts welcome.

It could be a sign that a bulb is darn close to being done. Sometimes when they're on their way out they give a lot of resistance which makes the flasher go fast. Its also possible that one of the bulbs has some corrosion around the base causing resistance to spike.
