Okay, well I got an 89' Cutlass Ciera V6 3.3L; Anyways, We were pulling out of the restraunt today and the car wouldn't start so, I kept turning it until it started, now when I hit it in reverse it was acting fine but as soon as I started it in drive it started lurching forward and the rpm gauge went haywire from 0 to 4,000 rpm all by itself and would not idle. Now at this point a little concerned we started to drive home and bout half of the way there the car decided it didn't want to work any more and basically killed over.. came to a rolling stop. Now here's the problem it has a new battery and the connections seem to be fine because the car's electrical works just fine and the car also turns, it also has a strong gasoline odor comming off of it. So, I have absolutely no idea what could be going on, if anyone could help, that'd be great.

i would first start by checking for spark, its seems you are getting fuel but check for fuel leaks
