Getting clunking in 4wd

Hi, I read through anything I could find that was posted, but could not find a definitive answer.
I have an '88 s10 Blazer (2.8 v6) which I recently had header pipes put on to. Before surgery the 4wd worked fine (even used it to pull down a dead tree in the backyard). Now when I put it in 4wd-low I get a clunkung sound from the left front as if the axle is not able to fully engage. I am not sure how the front axles engage, but I assume that the cable from the vacume actuator does that. The actuator works fine--yanks on that cable good. Could the guy that worked on it(evil job) have knocked something out of adjustment? I had to adjust my tranny linkage after to get the reverse lights to work again.
I think the transfer case engages ok. No visable hose damage, and tried the battery disconnect(logic lock up) with no luck.
Any Ideas would be more than welcome. I am not really familliar with this vehicle yet.
