I like the magnaflow muffler on my truck.. Stock manifolds....and a single large muffler with dual inlets and dual outlets...quasi-dual exhaust. I have a flowmaster for a little while and they sound good, but they also "resonate" sound into the cad at normal driving speed which after a while just had to stop.

I also have a magnaflow muffler on my truck and it sounds like youd be pleased with it. There are different lengths you can choose from. The longer the quieter. Short ones are pretty loud but not annoying(thats the one i have:grinyes:).

Nope magnaflows are just right. If you can drive lightly on the gas you'll barely notice it but you can make it roar if you floor it. At idle it has a quiet little grummble that you can slightly notice but it sounds nice.

I just put flowmaters on my truck (99 ext cab) I like the sound out side, but they are so loud in the cab. Especially running 70 mph down the road. Is this normal? Should I have gone with the magna flow?

What you're hearing is the resonance. Its normal with flowmasters. Some people can live with but others cant stand it. I think there are different types of flowmasters that vary in loudness. Magnaflow doesnt resonate so its usually a good pick.

I just had my exhaust done. I had the pipes cut up front behind the cats and run duals back into a 2.25 dual inlet and 2.50 dual outlet Vortex Classic muffler and straight out the back. The muffler sounds good when getting on the gas,but the in cab noise is too loud. It drones real bad when the overdrive kicks in. I was thinking of trying the Flowmsater 50 or 70 series, but maybe I'll try the Magnaflow. I also added the K&N 77 series cold air kit. She breathes much better now.

I have installed a Corsa cat-back sport exhaust system on my '02 Silverado. I think it sounds great. Has a nice sound when accelerating but is nice and quiet at cruise..... just the way I wanted it.
Here is a link to hear the sounds of it starting up and a drive-away. The recording doesn't really do it justice, but gives you an idea of how it sounds on the truck. Get ready to part with about $800 bucks for the cat-back system. No drone in the cab at all... just a nice mellow sound on acceleration. During cruise you hardly hear it at all.

That is a 5.3 breathing through the Corsa cat-back system. By the way, if you didn't know, that is all stainless steel stuff.... pipes, muffler, clamps etc. Looks real nice and has some pretty oval polished stainless tips peeking out from under the bumper.

yes this is why I do have a flowmaster anymore. To much sound in the cab. If you want something that has a good sound under load and a moderate sound under liight throttle then magnaflow is the brand.

Since my flowmasters made too much noise in the cab while driving 70mph, I had them taken off and they told me to go with the flowmaster 70 series. So I did. They are sad. Can't hear sound at all. They literally sound stock. I'm so unhappy. Surely there is a muffler that will give me some noise, WITHOUT dropping $800.
Any ideas?

Hey guys and gals, any opinions on the Vortex mufflers on a 5.3 Vortec compared to the mufflers mentioned in this thread, like cab noise at 65/70 mph, performance gains, etc ? Thanks

Why don't you guys just do without the muffler like I did.. sounds much better than a flowmaster. All you have to do is put in a Y-pipe and have the pipes run out the back.. will most no more than $400 if that! YOu will get the gurthy sound without the incab noise

i have a flowmaster 50 series delta flow muffler dumped right in front of the axle and its perfect! not loud inside at all. i dont want tail pipes because of how low my truck is, it was way cheap too. less than $100

I have never seen an exhaust job for less than $100 that included the muffler. the pipes and muffler itself is at least $100 plus labor.. unless you did it yourself.

Nothing wrong with that, but that is not what most people would typically pay. I am glad you got a good deal.

I have a FLO-PRO 747 on my truck, single in single out. It has a really nice sound at start up, along with a pleasing highway sound. You can hear it, but not too loud. I pull a camper and did not want the muffler to drone while under load. The FLO-PRO is cheaper than the Flowmaster, it is quality build, and has a nice, distinct sound. Mash the gas and hear it roar! You can go to the FLO-PRO website, flopro.com and check out the sound clips. The one that I have is like the one installed on the Lincoln Navigator clip. I think it is a FlO-PRO 767. Anyway, it cost me a flat $100 installed using my factory pipe. I bought a weld-on stainless steel tip from Ebay for $25 to add a little shine.

I love the sound of my flowmasters. I don't think they sound to loud in the cab, but after having a 67 camaro with straight pipes, nothing sounds loud to me anymore.

I just finished installing a magnaflow cat back on my silverado. Very nice piece and fit very well. Hardest part was getting the old system out, and drilling out the bolts on the head pipe. Very quiet, almost too quiet!

The quick way to get the sound you want.. is get the Glass packs really hot.. then spray cold water on them.. that will break them up and get you the sound you want.

i tried that, and i also try getting the muffs real hot and then spraying water INSIDE of the mufflers, i have tried a few times. but they don't seem to be getting louder. they are one of the better built glassapacks though. i will keep on trying though

I would not recommend putting water inside.. that will rust out the GP's from the inside out. maybe you could record the sound and post on the forums.

I did the Borla Stainless all the way back to include headers on my 2000 Suburban. Very satisfied. Nice sound, and never have to do it again! Chose to do the Sub before the Silvy becase the Sub gets all the short trips, and seemed to need exhaust work about twice as often as the Silvy. Guess the thing never got hot enough to evaporate all the water...
I will definately do the same to the pickup when it needs exhaust work...

Just a little under $1500.00. But then the truck is paid for, and I can't in the near future see me parting with $40K+ for a new one. The statistics in South Dakota are that every 3rd driver is un-insured...not where I'm gonna drive the better part of $40,000.00.
I was really impressed with the fit of the Borla stuff. It's spendy but it is all they say it is.
The other thing that's neat about the headers is how it dresses up the engine compartment.

Sounds pretty good. I understand about not wanting to spend $40K. I just paid mine off in Jan. It is really nice not having a truck payment anymore. big load off. but after paying for 5 years.. makes me want a new vehicle.. not a new truck (I plan on keeping the one I have until the wheels fall off).. maybe something else like the new Monte's. I think I will wait until they make them rear-wheel drive in 2008. that should give me enough time to save up for it.

I think the new Monte would be good. I'm leaning towards building a Manx Type dune buggy with a Corvair engine/driveline first though.
Something I forgot to mention about my Borla exhaust though is that I did see about 2 mpg worth of better mileage. It was immediate and definately attributable to the exhaust system. At the time I thought "big deal"...but with fuel prices headed where they say, the payback might be sooner than I thought.
