Hi,
I was checking my mom's 98 Malibu because when too many accessories are on, a knock was felt from the engine while you're at a light. I felt the accessory belt and it feels REALLY LOOSE. Also, there's a squeeking come from that area. Is there a way to tighten the tensioner or maybe it wasn't installed right to begin with? Or do I just need to replace it.
But first, can anyone tell me what to check for before I replace it? Because I know on my car, you can actually compress the spring on the tensioner which made everythign better (for a while).

is it manually adjustable or is it spring loaded? Try replacing the belt first and if that doesn't solve it replace the tensioner.
