Alright, i have the 3.4 liter engine in my 1993 grand prix SE coupe. The type of car leads me to think it would have the 3.1 as i have seen in all the SE 93's around me. It turns out pontiac only put a small percent of 3.4's in the SE. When did pontiac decide to call my car a SE instead of a GTP with the 3.4 v6 under the hood. I know i don't have the louver holes in the hood or a spoiler, but is that the only difference between my SE and a GTP. Is the GTP more powerful than mine in the engine, because most of my info i got says no, but if i knew for sure i wouldn't be asking... This has been bugging me for a while now...

I beleve that in those years the GTP had a Dual Overhead Cam 3.4L, while the rest of them got the pushrod 3.1L and 3.4L

The 3.4 DOHC was an optional engine in the SE (standard equipment on the GTP). If your car is a 4-door, they never offered the GTP package on 90-96 model 4-doors. The SE comes equipped with bucket seats, console shift, sport suspension, etc... and are generally more sport oriented than the LE models. The LE had the front bench seat, column shift, soft ride suspension, etc... and were more luxury/family car oriented. The only difference between the GTP and SE models equipped with the 3.4 DOHC was appearance (the ground effects, spoiler, hood louvers, etc...). Mechanically, they are identical if similarly equipped.

Alright so the 3.4 liter in my '93 SE 2-door was optional for the car. Because i have the bucket seats and the floor mounted shifter (automatic) and the ground effects. Alright thanks for getting that straight for me...

Hey SNKPWR, just for giggles, do you have the vin on your 93 handy? I'm curious as to how an SE came with the bench seat and column shift. The 3.1was the SE base engine, so no mystery there.

VIN is 1G2WJ14T9PF312833
yeah, its a split bench, seperate seat backs, but the lower goes all the way across and split approx in the middle, but def has column shift, cause the floor in the middle just has a small hump, i guess where the exhaust routes under the car...but it does have power windows and locks...and it DOES say SE on the side of the car...i went out and checked after seeing this thread...
EDIT: here is a pic of it...

Yep, is sure is an SE, so I guess my info is incorrect as far as the interior trim goes. thanks for the correction, I don't like giving out bogus info. Your car also has the FE1 soft ride suspension, so I guess the SE designation doesn't mean much.
