95 Engine Misfires/Oil Light

Hello, all.

Whenever I start my 95 SE, the oil light comes on for 15-30 secs, then goes off and is silent for the rest of the trip. Whenever I exceed 50 MPH, the engine misfires violently with slight acceleration. This happened in November, the mechanic replaced the spark plugs, all was well for three weeks. The engine began misfiring again upon light acceleration at any and all velocities after that. The engine also began idling very violently. The engine light finally came on a couple of days ago, and I took the car in again. This guy replaced a cylinder, fixed a transmision fluid leak and flushed the power steering fluid (for whatever these are worth). The idling problem is gone, but the oil light continues to show during the first thirty seconds after ignition, and the engine still misfires over 50, though not nearly as severely.

Any more ideas?

On some high mileage engines this will happen. It takes a little while for the oil pressure to build to a certain level. If you are using a heavy weight oil and the weather is cold this will happen. As long as the oil light goes out you should be fine although I think I would examine the weight of oil I was using and see if it is proper for the outside temperature. You may also want to change the oil pressure sending unit as it may be partially plugged from sludge and is not registering properly.

Welcome to AF!!

I have the identical problem on my 1995 Bonneville. I have replaced the coil paks (all 3) the plugs , and plug wires.... None of this helped but I am still working on it. will get back to you if I ever really fix it. I am thinking about the Catalytic Converter and the Engine computer. Also scrambling around all the wiring for a bad ground wire.
