Windshield wiper problem

my 98 grand prix gt was egged overnight, and the next day when i went to use my windshield wipers one was stuck down and one was operational. once i realized this i cleaned the egg off and the one wiper is now broken, i think it's the piece that connects the wiper to the actual round part that rotates. any ideas on the best way to fix this? i tried looking around to see if i could actually tell what part was broken but i didnt want to start taking stuff apart when i didn't know what i was doing. any help is appreciated, thanks

The wiper arm attaches to the mechanism using a spline setup. It is possible that the spline on the wiper arm has stripped and will need to be replaced. Take the nut off and pry the wiper arm off. If the splines are stripped out you will need an new arm. If not try pushing the arm back on and tighen the nut a little more to see if it will operate. Not hard to do just need a box end wrench.

thanks for your help, GTP Dad. Now that i have the wiper working correctly again, i'm trying to figure out why the wiper fluid won't work! My cars wiper fluid system works where the fluid actually comes out of a hose coming from the wiper fluid container that is attached to the wipers, and the fluid comes out as the wipers rotate. Last time this happened i was able to find a break in the hose, but this time i was able to find no breaks, or leaks in any place. The wiper fluid has only stopped working since my car was egged, and it doesn't come out of the wiper that has been working the entire time as well as the wiper that i have recently fixed. when i try to use the wiper fluid, i don't notice any sort of excess fluid leaking out anywhere.. it just doesnt seem to be coming out at all. Any ideas on why the egging would cause this to completely stop working?

It is possible that the egg has hardened in the end of the sprayer and will not allow the fluid to come out. Also it is possible that the tubing was kinked when you put the wiper back on so check both. My bet is egg in the tip of the spray nozzle.

well i checked to see if the hose was kinked, and i thoroughly cleaned the nozzles of both sprayers, and still no luck. i even unplugged the hose from one of the wipers to see if the fluid would leak out when i tried to use it but still nothing came out. any other ways that the egg could have caused this problem? possibly the mechanism that pumps the fluid into the tube broke around the same time as my car was egged and i'm just going to have to take it somewhere...

Don't want to sound stupid here as I am no car expert, but my washer stopped working and I could "see" the fluid in the resorvoir (from the outside), so I replaced the pump - didn't help. The fluid I thought I saw was only the orange stain from it, I was out of fluid. I know I am a dummy, but just in case, did you look to see if the fluid was there?
