My first post, here goes:

1997 Trooper Limited, 155,000 miles, 3.2L V6, 4 x 4. (bought is used at 135,000)

1) how do I know if it has an alarm system or not?:uhoh:

2) If my front diff cv boots are ripped, is it harmful to drive in 2WD?

3) The ATF was black and yukky, I drained and refilled twice, how many more until the fluid is red?:shakehead

4) My voltmeter is wacky. Under slight acceleration the needle drops below 12 volts, at no throttle, it is near 14V. It waves at me every time I press the throttle. I verified with a multimeter at the battery, its a new battery, great cable condition. I never have dc problems, except when the battery gave up, it was old. So What gives?:nono:

5) The idle cranked up to 2200 the other day. Shut it off, count to 5, start it, perfect idle. No whistle at engine. Idle Air Control malfunction?:banghead:

6) I found the file for the 2000 VehiCross CD Manual on-line, but I would sure love to get one for Trooper specifically 1997-ish.

Thanks.

Not sure about Troopers but this is completely normal for '97 Rodeos. The ECM tells the alternator to stop charging the battery during acceleration to improve fuel economy. This shouldn't happen when the headlights are on. Look in your Owner's manual (if you have one). It's mentioned in the "Instruments/Controls" section under Voltmeter.

5) The idle cranked up to 2200 the other day. Shut it off, count to 5, start it, perfect idle. No whistle at engine. Idle Air Control malfunction?:banghead:Or it could be the power steering pressure switch.

For the manual, try Helminc.com

Their search gave me:

http://www.helminc.com/helm/Result.asp?Style=&Mfg=AIM&Make=AIM&Model=TRPR&Year=1997&Category=&Keyword=&Module=&mscsid=AQ66U5MF16LM8PHAHC0QH69XASA2DQB5

Looks like $100 for the CD version. $35+ $90 for the dead tree version.

As far as I know, these are the same ones the dealer uses.

Hope this helps.

Pete

That makes sense about the alternator. Thanks. It did not come with an owners manual. sure would like to get one that didnt cost $$$. A digital PDF file would be fine. Does anyone else have an answer for 1, 2, 3, 5 ?
